1991 Donruss Baseball Cards: What’s Worth Keeping
The blue-bordered 1991 Donruss set is mostly common, but its numbered Elite inserts were some of the first serial-numbered cards. What to look for.
By Card Shows & Shops · October 22, 2026
1991 Donruss came in two series with dark blue borders. Like the rest of the junk wax era, the base cards were printed in huge numbers and are worth very little, though the blue borders chip so easily that true gem copies are not common.
The Elite inserts
The cards worth looking for are the Elite Series inserts, hand-numbered on the back. The commonly quoted run is 10,000 of each Elite card, with the Nolan Ryan "Legends" card numbered lower; collector reports differ, so check the number on yours.
